Fiction

What is the place of fiction? Is it solely a form of meaningless entertainment, or does it have a use?

I agree with Blitz, that is can be helpful, and useful to look at things through a different perspective (be it morals or history that fiction can display). I've even heard before that one should read the Bible as if it was a fiction book. Meaning, you should be looking for repeated phrasing and focusing on characters and stuff you normally would in a Fiction book, rather than simply blandly reading the Bible as if it was a Book of Proverbs or just a textbook, and not focusing on the writing aspect of it.
