Marriage or Partnership?

Post by Mr. S on Mon Jan 11, 2016 9:39 am

I wanted to open up this thread, because we are having a very interesting topic discussion in "Last Names". This thread is dedicated to the central question: what is the purpose of our relationships which either express themselves in marriage or a prolonged partnership?

So you are saying a partnership marriage isn't really a marriage?

That's the question I'm asking: is this thing that we historically called a marriage something more, something less, basically the same now that it was in the past, or something entirely different?

Should we be determining what marriage is based on history or God's definition through the Bible?

As for how similar it is today compared to how it used to be, that is, how similar marriage has remained to its earlier forms, that depends on what you consider integral to marriage and have those things remained the same or changed.

There has always been great celebration over marriage. It has always been seen as a great, valuable and life altering commitment after all it is our general nature to mate long term. And yes, most cultures viewed it as more than a partnership before the present. It was often seen as sacred and, again, a serious commitment.

So, from what you said in the other thread, @Mr. S.... When the Bible says a married couple becomes "one flesh," your saying the husband becomes the head, and wife becomes the body that does what the brain tells it to?  Confused
